2000 Report
Faulstich Grassland Management Project

Two thousand was the first year for the grazing system. Installation of fences was required and the above ground watering system was installed. Rainfall in 2000 was slightly below normal. Heifer gains and length of grazing were positive results from using the system.

Problems encountered duing 2000 included:

  1. Lower than desired heifer conception rates . The livestock were weighed three times during the grazing season. The disruption by weighing in July during breeding and the mineral program were changed in 2001.
  2. Heavy use of the riparian areas.

The pond was used as a watering source during 2000 for 8 of the 21 paddocks.
This pond, with alternative water available, is viewed primarily as a wildlife area, and therefore the shoreline will only be grazed occasionally in future years.
