Area Overview The Project has targeted the Belle Fourche River and Bear Butte Creek in the Hills watershed area. Running 257 miles from the Wyoming border to the Cheyenne River, the Belle Fourche River is adversely affected by suspended solids, fecal bacteria, and elevated water temperature-primarily due to agricultural activities. Bear Butte Creek, stretching 60 miles from its headwaters to the Belle
Fourche River, suffers from a variety of adversities including thermal
changes and channel bank modifications due to mining, agricultural,
and urban activities. The project is focused on the temperature problems
in the creek. |
