Improving Water Quality

The Watershed Planning and Development Project is a federally funded and locally managed initiative with the goal of improving the quality of water in South Dakota's rivers, lakes and streams.

The project pursues this goal by providing technical and financial assistance that helps landowners develop land management practices that will both improve the quality of the state's waters and benefit the landowner.

The Watershed Planning and Assistance Project is sponsored by, and under the management of, the South Dakota Association of Conservation Districts (SDACD).

Our funding is provided by a clean-water grant from the federal Environmental Protection Agency through the South Dakota Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

Resource Management Specialists

SDACD employs eight resource management specialists who have been assigned to seven SDACD watershed areas. They are assigned to field operations and will be responsible for providing one-on-one assistance to landowners and operators. Their training and certification is being provided through NRCS' staff training program. Further information is available on the Watershed Project Coverage Areas page.
