Welcome!
South Dakota Association of Conservation Districts

South Dakota's "Worm Tunnel" has been a hit during 2002! Originating from the Aberdeen NRCS Field Office and South Brown Conservation District, S.K. Worm has led the way teaching others about soil. Kids (and adults) have experienced the tunnel at the Sioux Empire Fair, Aberdeen and Pierre Water Festivals.

Now, the exhibit is available for others to use.

Would anyone like to reserve the Healthy Soil/Worm Tunnel exhibit for their next special event?

Any part or all of the materials can be used. The tunnel is 24 inches in diameter and can be 4 to 16 feet long depending upon how many segments are used. The full exhibit can be transported in the bed of a pickup. We have a lesson plan from Water Festivals that adapts to a classroom setting.

Tentatively reserved dates are:

  • Water Festivals in Sioux Falls, Minnehaha Conservation District and Huron (Spring 2003)
  • Mother Earth Week, Rosebud Sioux Tribe and Todd County School District, third week of May 2003
  • 2003 Sioux Empire Fair, Sioux Falls, August 5-10
  • Water Festivals in Pierre and Aberdeen, (September 2003)

Contact Colette Kessler at (605) 224-2476 or Doug Farrand (605) 226-3360 for details and to bring S.K. Worm to your hometown!
