Grazing School in Chamberlain, SD

Where: Oacoma Community Events Center -100 E 3rd St, Oacoma, SD

Details: Join area ranchers and land managers in this hands-on school focused on improving grazing management on your farm or ranch. Topics include setting goals, assessing pasture health and stocking rates, economics, fence and water systems, weed issues, and more!

Field Day at Kleinschmidt Farm

Where: 45696 SD HWY 22, Castlewood, SD

Directions: From Highway 34, turn north on 318th Ave. and travel six miles. From Highway 14, turn south on 318th Ave. and travel 12 miles. We will meet at the white and red shop on the west side of the road.

Time: 9:00 AM – 11:30 PM CT

Details: Join Dakota Lakes Research Farm to learn how the Kleinschmidt family is adapting their operation to respond to challenging commodity prices. Benson Kleinschmidt will discuss the importance of keeping the big picture in mind and keeping an eye on not only cash crop options but also cattle, grazing, and even conservation programs.

Topics include:

  • Improving nitrogen use efficiency

  • Using crop rotations to manage fertilizer costs

  • Cultural control of weeds

  • Integrating livestock on cropland

  • Seed equipment modifications

Details: Enhance the Native Plant Community & Eastern Red Cedar Control - The field day will address the results of the spring prescribed fire. We will explore what lessons we learned, habitat responses to timing and conditions, ecological effects, and whether our objectives were met. We also welcome participant questions and concerns.
